Lead Dog Training with Willow: Day Two

Today we really began working with Willow on the basic commands. We don’t use a leash at first and we don’t even separate the pups out. This way it’s all fun and no one gets jealous.

Jealousy is one of the hardest parts of keeping a pack of huskies. 😆

So we do our best to keep everyone from getting their little furry feelings hurt. We also make lead dog training available for all the pups who are interested and then focus on the ones who show the most promise. You’ll see that Willow definitely shows promise!

Here’s a video I made of us starting the work with her:

We didn’t do it for long, just a few minutes today but it opened her up to the concept of focusing on learning. She did great!

Next, we’ll be taking her for walks along with her sister and kennel mate, Dee Dee, and that’s when we’ll really start working on the “gees” and “haws”. Not just with Willow but with them both. It’s always good to train a secondary with your lead because they tend to make great swing dogs this way.

Plus, you never know. Dee Dee may end up being better at it than Willow! There’s only one way to find out….
